The decision to produce these models was taken on July 12, 2001 , when the presidents of Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën, Fujio Cho and Jean-Martin Folz, decided to produce a small car together in a consortium to share development costs and achieve basic price of around 8,500 euros.
These three vehicles being developed jointly as the " project B-Zero», presented in world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005 , although the series was started to produce since 28 February 2005. All three models are manufactured at the plant of the joint venture Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile (TPCA), in Colin Republic.
